Christmas morning, I had hiked out
and shot one of the Mormon Row
barns at sunrise. After hiking back
and warming up, I drove north to
the Snake River Overlook. The
day before, I had been surprised
that there was open water on the
Snake River, with temperatures
below zero. I arrived and was
awestruck by the scene. Hoarfrost
and snow coated the trees, a layer
of fog hung in the -6 air, and the
moon was headed for its set. I set
up the camera, in no real hurry this
time, making sure I took the time to
soak it all in.
